House C - Keyser House

Keyser House

The single story Keyser House sits discreetly on its property, its broad front lawn, once a thriving apple orchard, stretching down to the road. The house itself, built as a brick four room retirement home for Henry Keyser in the 1960's, is now, via two intriguing additions, the charming home and art studio of Nancy Keyser. She and her husband, the late Magruder Keyser, of the original Keyser families from Old Hollow, reconfigured the home of Magruder’s parents to suit their own retirement needs. The first addition included a master bedroom, guest room, and an indoor pool room, with full length windows on two sides, drawing the outdoors inside, and providing breathtaking views over the nearby meadows to the western Blue Ridge mountains. The second addition, incorporating the original outside brick walls, is a dual function living room/art studio, full of light and air, with a soapstone fireplace surround, and multi-level ceilings. All through the house are antique pieces from Keyser homes all over the county, from Nancy’s family, and from years of collecting. Nancy’s colorful landscapes brighten the walls, old crocks and platters fill the shelves of old hutches and corner cupboards.
